Overview

Even before I started freelancing, I tracked every productive minute I spent in front of my devices using fairly rudimentary methods, like an Excel spreadsheet. Over the years, I tried countless apps and services, and while most of them were “good enough,” none could truly keep me invested.

Between an endless list of bugs that never got patched, recurring subscription fees (even for offline-only apps), and missing features or integrations with popular tools, I eventually threw in the towel.

Oras is a Mac-native, offline-first time tracking app, and an homage to the days when software was something you could buy once and use indefinitely. In that spirit, the app will offer a lite version with a limited set of features. This version will be open source and is intended to serve either as a trial or a complete solution for users with simpler time-tracking needs.

The project is still in its early stages, but I plan to share frequent development logs on my blog once it’s up and running.
